| The
rural communities of England are in greater danger than ever before.
Some 71% of all rural settlements have been left without a local
food shop. Hundreds of small farms have been forced to close or
merge. Thousands of people have lost their jobs or been forced
to leave the industry.
For
many, fresh food has become expensive, inaccessible or both.
The
Plunkett Foundation is a national charity based in Woodstock,
Oxfordshire. We aim to combat the disadvantages felt by so many
rural communities, and to reconnect the producers and the consumers
in ways that are sustainable, beneficial and constructive both
in social and economic terms.
Through
the many social enterprises we support, we want to see the rural
life of England back on its feet – healthy, forward-looking
and playing its part in a world of change. |
